About Food Launcher

Bearded Brothers Founders - Chris Herbert & Caleb Simpson

Hi, I’m Caleb Simpson (pictured, right), founder of Food Launcher, and co-owner/founder of Bearded Brothers (makers of organic, vegan, gluten & soy free energy bars). I started Food Launcher with the purpose of helping aspiring food entrepreneurs get to market faster, and answer many of the tough questions they have about running a food business, as well as to provide inspiration for running a successful business.

I launched Bearded Brothers with my brother-in-law Chris Herbert after having spent 8 years working cubical jobs in Dallas. The work left me unsatisfied, which eventually lead to a side business as a professional photographer. When the side business didn’t take off I decided to pursue another passion – healthy organic foods.

Having zero past experience in the packaged food business Chris and I jumped headlong into the food business and figured things out as we went along. Five years later Bearded Brothers bars can be found in over 700 retail locations, including Whole Foods (select locations), Central Market, Earth Fare, and REI.

To launch Bearded Brothers I straight up quit my full time job with full benefits and paid vacation to be fully dedicated to making Bearded Brothers a success. Leaving the comfort of a “secure” job wasn’t easy, but doing something I enjoyed for a living made going into work every day easy. Work no longer felt like work, which made those long extended hour workweeks a breeze.

Fear was the biggest thing that kept me from launching the business sooner, that and the lack of knowledge. But the reality of it is those things were just excuses. With lots of determination, a willingness to learn, and the help of others Bearded Brothers launched after only 6 months of preparation and planning.

My hope is that Food Launcher will be a valuable resource that will help you get your food business started faster, will help answer the hundreds of questions you have swirling around in your head, and will be a source of inspiration along your food business entrepreneurial journey.

I’m 10 weeks into the process. I feel I’ve made good progress to this point, but do find myself feeling a bit overwhelmed at times. (and of course fear has nipped at my tail a few times too) so you’ll be seeing a lot of me in the near future.
